About the hike: (click
HERE to view the map) The most popular trail in Claremont Canyon is the Stonewall-Panoramic Ridge Trail, also referred to as the East/West Trail at its upper end. The trail starts at the Stonewall Road entrance to the Claremont Canyon Regional Preserve and climbs steeply up the northern ridge of Claremont Canyon for about a half-mile, enabling hikers to enjoy spectacular vistas of almost the entire San Francisco Bay Region. We take a side trail down to Panoramic Way and wind out way down to the steps above the UC Berkeley soccer field.

How to get there:
The main entrance to the preserve is on Stonewall Road, which is a block north of the Claremont Hotel. We recommend starting where Tanglewood Road deadends. Parking on the street is 2 hours and limited.
To reach steps at Tanglewood Way leading up to the Stonewall-Panoramic trailhead from Highway 24, exit Fish Ranch Road immediately east of the Caldecott Tunnel. Go up Fish Ranch Road about one mile to the four-way stop. Continue through the stop; Fish Ranch becomes Claremont Ave. Continue for about 3 miles. Make a right onto Tanglewood Rd. and continue to the end of the street. There are steps leading up a steep cement sidewalk to the Claremont Canyon Regional Park gate (Stonewall-Panoramic trailhead). From Highway 13: Turn east onto Claremont Ave. and continue forward about .25 mile. Turn left onto Tanglewood Way.
Buses: AC Transit routes #7 and #9 stop at Ashby Ave. and Claremont Ave. about .3 miles from the trailhead. The #7 bus also stops at Belrose Avenue and Garber Road.
